Linda Ohama

Today we attended a lecture of Linda Ohama, a famous movie director. We watched some parts of her movie called Obachan no Garden. In this movie, we could learn how hard time her grandmother had. Also, the movie has shown the comlpex situation that she and her family had.

One of the most interesting point to me was that her grandmother and mother never tried to teach Japanese because they thought being Japanese was dagerous. Recently, I watched a TV drama about Japanese-American people during the World War 2. The difference between Ohama family and the family in the TV drama was the attitude toward the fact that they are Japanese (to some extent). Ohama family didn't like to be Japanese because of Canadians' discrimination. In contrast, The family in the TV program had pride of being Japanese despite Americans' discrimination.

It was good experience to listen to her story.
